Waipu Steve and Joleen really compliment each other - flowing seamlessly between theory and application of learning. I felt so supported to explore my own curiosity in asana, pranayama, everything! They made teaching feel natural and fun, right from the get go. The small class size makes it very intimate and they didn’t seem to mind endless questions...! I will be looking forward to a 300hr training with Steve and Joleen in the future.

The course was delivered in a very practical thorough way. Steve and Joleen are both extremely good facilitators, they have a calm relaxing manner coupled with a lovely sense of humour. I came away strongly feeling that yoga is a practice for 'all' and that there are many options for teaching people of all levels. The venue at Piha was perfect, being able to walk down to the beautiful beach or up to the stunning waterfall was a real highlight. 10 out of 10 from me.

Steve and Joleen not only taught me so much but they made me feel like family. They are truly genuine people who want to help you improve. I am ready to do a 300-YTT with them!

Piha is one of New Zealand's most famous surf beach and is popular with local kiwis - especially in the summertime. The dramatic black sand beach, which is marked at each end by rugged cliffs, is also the location for the TV show "Piha Rescue."

Piha is not only a world-renowned surf beach but is surrounded by lush native rain forest with many stunning bush walks and a large waterfall.

The Piha village is a short 10-minute flat walk away and has a general Piha store where you can buy basic necessities, a cafe, library, post office, art gallery, bowling club bar and restaurant, tennis courts, surf shop, RSA bar and restaurant and the Piha Surf club bar and restaurant.

Several surf schools operate in Piha, and surfboards can be hired from either the Piha surf shop or Lion rock board shop. Lifeguards work throughout the summer months with safe flagged swimming areas marked on the beaches.

The first week will be an immersion into Hatha asanas, pranayama, kriyas, yoga anatomy, philosophy, and an introduction to basic sequencing.

The second week is about experiencing Vinyasa flows based around Surya Namaskar (sun salute) A and B and expanding creative sequencing.

You will get to participate in hands-on workshops on arm balances, inversions, backbends, adjustments, partner yoga, restorative yoga and more.

We will also have a few Restorative and Yin classes throughout the training as well. All this will give you a broad base to teach from.

This training will include 19 days of accommodation, course fees, and manuals. Meals are not included as students will purchase their own vegetarian food and cook either separately or communally.

Course Topics

This YTT is a comprehensive course that will cover a range of topics as required by Yoga Alliance certification which includes yoga philosophy and history, asanas and different styles of yoga (Hatha, Vinyasa and Yin), sequencing, kriyas, kirtan, pranayama, meditation, and incorporating yoga into your daily life.

You will be staying in a beautiful private coastal New Zealand home in Piha, a laid-back seaside village 45 minutes west of Auckland city.

Wake up to a stunning view of Piha’s famous Lion Rock and its beautiful black sand beaches.

At night, enjoy a warm cuppa on the large sea-facing deck looking out to the magnificent sunset over the Tasman, and the crystalline views of the extraordinarily bright Southern night sky full of stars.

We offer a vegetarian self-catering experience, so each student will buy and prepare their meals. This gives maximum dietary possibilities and is a fun way to see what other people eat.

Meals are a fun and educational communal time together. There are cafes and a small store walking distance away and the main supermarket is 25 minutes away.

We will make regular shopping trips into town as needed. Typically students budget around USD $100-$130 for the 3 weeks.

Here at Asia Pacific Yoga, we strive to create immersive, expansive, and transformational experiences that you will not forget.

We believe in keeping our groups small, a maximum of 9 students so that each student gets the maximum benefit out of the training and the proper attention he or she deserves.

Yoga practices are about feeling better, no matter where that begins for you. It is not about what it looks like. It is about what it feels like.

Our trainings are about exploration, not perfection. We are passionate about our yoga and love to share these simple but profound practices.

We go by the principles of everybody is DIFFERENT, and individual attention is vital when you begin learning yoga postures and yoga sequences.

We understand that there is no ‘one size fits all’ when it comes to yoga and that every student has different needs when learning how to teach yoga.
