My #1

My favourite spot in Sri Lanka. A beautiful centre surrounded by the peace of the forest. A lake and stream where you can bathe, rooftop pavilion (with WiFi) to relax and a handful of individually designed rooms which are spacious, comfortable and beautifully designed with antique furniture and art. Bathtubs in most rooms. Healthy, nourishing and authentic Sri Lankan food. Already have our next visit booked and written in the diary!

A very special place!

Me and my boyfriend visited the Kandy Samadhi centre in April and were absolutely blown away by the place. Located in the middle of ‘nowhere’ the huge hotel area is filled with beautiful and authentic design and a calm atmosphere to let you slow down and relax mind, body and soul. We ended up in one of the bigger rooms which had a really nice and interesting style to it. We could enjoy the bathtub placed out on the terrace or take a swim in the river just outside of the room. Since it was located a 2 minutes walk down the road from the main building, we felt as if we were completely alone with the beautiful raw nature. The atmosphere helped to let go of stress and to ground ourselves to a more inward focus. The Ayurvedic massage was the best I had so far in my life. The staff was lovely and did a really good job with creating a calm and grounded energy to let the guests be able to relax fully. And last but not least; the Ayurvedic meals were absolutely delicious!!!!

Location

Your yoga vacation will be held at The Kandy Samadhi Centre in Sri Lanka. Located on an abandoned tea plantation on the edge of the Dumbara Valley and away from the hustle and bustle of the busy roads, The Kandy Samadhi Centre is a beautiful and tranquil retreat that will compel you to relax and contemplate what is important in life.

At Samadhi, you will have a perfect opportunity to let nothing interrupt the sounds of forest birdsong, tree frogs, crickets, and the whisper of the breeze from the trees.

Ayurvedic healing has for centuries been integral to Sri Lankan culture and healing. Sri Lankan authentic Ayurveda treatment is handed down the generations through chants, ola leaf manuscripts and secret formulae. Consult with a leading Ayurvedic physician to know which Ayurveda treatment will help you to recover from your ailment.

You can chose from these available Ayururvedha treatments :

You will stay for 2 nights at The Kandy Samadhi Centre. Inside the entrance hall at Samadhi, you will see a silk tapestry depicting seven Buddhist monks each holding a lotus blossom in their hand. Each monk is a different shade of brown.

Likewise, the cultural diversity of this island is reflected in the villagers, who form the core of what makes Samadhi run smoothly. They are unspoiled and courteous - every man, woman, or boy will calmly break from sweeping the stone pathway, lighting the oil lamp, or picking fresh produce for your lunch to wish you "ayubowan", the traditional Sinhala welcome which means "let there be long life".

The inspiration for the design and architecture was born of meditation. So, you willingly leave your city husk behind at the gate with no signal for mobile phones. The thirteen pavilions, which lean out of the hillside, are veritable temples of tranquility. They are designed to make you feel you are the only person staying here.

Privacy is everything here, yet there are no unnecessary walls. This results in a truly serene environment surrounded by urns, art, and treasures dating back to a time Kandy was a royal realm. Here, everything is king sized. The Indonesian teak bed in a double room is spacious enough to sleep three people comfortably. But even the smallest suite provides a four-poster bed to dream in.

The spacious verandahs of each suite of rooms give onto paddy fields, nearby mountains, and bench terraces filled with herb gardens or pineapples. Bamboos reach out with their four-fingered leaves to fan a breeze at you. In the surrounding, there are a natural forest as well as mango, toddy palm, mahogany, and jak trees which rub neck with giant bamboos, avocado trees, and Chinese guava trees.

Only home-grown organic food is served as meals at the retreat. Here, you will be provided daily delicious meals made from fresh local produce which can be enjoyed with the candlelight and under the stars in the open-air restaurant.

This is a very old traditional Ayurveda therapy, helps you to synchronize circulatory and marma points through strokes and massages.  This is a great retreat for anyone looking to take a break from hectic modern life. Ayurveda massages were held in a truly serene setting. The entire setup at Samadhi encourages you to slow down, experience nature and just chill. The rooms are rustic but beautifully fitted out with an eclectic mix of antiques.

  • 2  sessions of Ayurvedic massage
  • A trip to the waterfall and picnic
