OVERVIEW

Although small, Bhutan is a perfectly formed kingdom in the shadows of Himalayas, between India and China. This is a place where people live close to nature and still proudly wear their national costumes daily. 

Here the welfare of the people is extremely important and thus, development is not measured by Gross National Product, but instead, priority is given to Gross National Happiness. While here, one is sure to find the most respectful people around and can learn a lot from them as to how to live in tune with nature.

What better place to practice yoga and mindfulness than the very peaceful Bhutan where one can focus on meditation and raise their spiritual energy? Embark on this spiritual journey in the land of Thunder Dragon that will surely change you from the inside out. On this retreat, you will practice yoga, meditation while enjoying some fun-filled adventure activities.

The retreat will start from Bangkok wherein the participants can explore Thai culture and enjoy delicious Thai food. There will be an overnight stay at the Tawana Hotel and in the morning we will leave for Paro, Bhutan. After exploring Paro, our next destination is Thimphu, the capital of Bhutan. Enjoy Thimphu’s nightlife and other sites such as museum and the National Memorial Chorten.

Next morning, hike to the Cheri Monastery in the hills above Thimphu and drive to your next destination – Punakha, home to Bhutan’s most beautiful Dzong. Also, enjoy river rafting the next day and drive to Nalanda Monastery and then return to Thimphu for further exploration.

Come back to Paro and hike to Tiger’s Nest Monastery before you bid us adieu and leave for Bangkok.

  • 5th August
    Arrive in Bangkok and meet at the Tawana Hotel.
  • 6th August
    Enjoy Bangkok, get a massage, eat amazing Thai food and get ready for tomorrow. Overnight at the theTawana hotel.
  • 7th August
    Bangkok to Bhutan
    Our departure from Bangkok will be at 5:00 AM to arrive Paro, Bhutan at 7:00 AM. Upon arrivalwe will meet our guide and driver and reachGangtey Palace Hotel, the former home of a Bhutanese noble family. We’ll explore downtown Paro, have lunch in a local restaurant, and have the afternoon to relax. Welcome dinner at Gangtey Palace Hotel.
  • 8th August
    Explore Paro
    Today we visit Paro town and explore its impressive 4-century old Dzong (fortified monastery), the museum and the Paro Valley, including the ancient Kyichu Monastery. Late afternoon free. Overnight at Gangtey Palace Hotel
  • 9th August
    Paro to Thimphu
    Breakfast at hotel, and then we prepare for 90-minute drive to Thimphu, capital of Bhutan. We have the afternoon to a walk to get acquainted with some of the sights of Thimphu. Friday evening is great night to experienceThimphu’s fun nightlife, and our Bhutanese friends will join us for the evening. Overnight at Druk Hotel.
  • 10th August
    Explore Thimphu
    Today we’ll visit several interesting places in Thimphu, National Memorial Chorten, the Folk Heritage Museum, a traditional paper making factory, and Buddha Point Statue. Late afternoon free to wander or relax. Dinner with Bhutanese friends. Overnight at Druk Hotel.
  • 11th August
    Hike to ancient Monastery, afternoon drive to Punakha
    This morning we take an hour hike to the impressive Cheri Monastery in the hills above Thimphu. After lunch in Thimphu we drive 3 hours, crossing the 10,300′ pass at Dochu-La and then descend into sub-tropical Punakha. Overnight at Drubchhu Resort.
  • 12th August
    Punakha Exploration
    Punakha is home to Bhutan’s most beautiful Dzong and we spend the morning exploring this 4-century old fortified monastery, visiting the seldom seen chambers and temples inside the Dzong. Following lunch we have optional 1-hour hike across rice fields to ChimiLhakang, also known as the Temple of the Divine Madman, a beloved historical figure in Bhutan. Overnight stay at Drubchhu Resort.
  • 13th August
    River Rafting!
    After breakfast we drive 20-minutes to go river rafting. We float alongthe gentle and safe Mother River. The trip takes around 90 minutes, passing small villages,the Dzong and the confluence of the Mother and Father Rivers, shortly after which wedisembark, return to the hotel for change of clothes and lunch. You will have afternoon to yourself. Overnight stay at Drubchhu Resort.
  • 14th August
    Punakha to Thimphu
    Morning drive to Nalanda Monastery, meet with monks who make this their home, then gentle downhill walk to Punakha town, lunch in town and then we drive back to Thimphu. Overnight at Druk Hotel.
  • 15th August
    Explore more of Thimphu
    The School of the 13 Traditional Arts and the National Textile Museum are on the agenda today. You will also have time to wander around Thimphu on your own or with the guides. Our Bhutanese friends will help those who want to enjoy Thimphu’s nightlife this Friday. Overnight stay at the Druk Hotel.
  • 16th August
    Thimphu to Paro
    Late morning departure from Thimphu to Paro. Lunch in Paro, and then afternoon arrival at our hotel, the Zhiwa Ling Hotel, chosen by National Geographic Society as one of the unique lodges of the world, this exquisite hotel makes a lovely venue for the final 2 days of our Bhutan journey. Relax on the beautiful grounds, the tea house, meditation room or spa.
  • 17th August
    Hike to Tiger’s Nest Monastery
    After breakfast we drive 20-minutes to base of mountain where Taksang Monastery is located. Also known as Tiger’s Nest Monastery, this most iconic of all buildings in Bhutan is perched on a cliff 2,700’ above the valley floor. Guru Rimpoche arrived here on the back of a flying tiger in the year 746, and meditated in a mountain cave for 3 months. The site has since been sacred and a monastery has been constructed to commemorate this visit.

    It is a pilgrimage site for all Bhutanese who gain merit by making the ascent. You too can gain merit while by making the 3-hour ascent and visiting the monastery seemingly glued to the barest concavity of the cliff face. After descending we’ll have lunch and you may opt for Bhutanese traditional hot stone bath or massage in hotel. Farewell dinner at our hotel, the Zhiwa Ling Hotel. 1

    Farewell
    Breakfast at hotel, free time at hotel or visit Paro town, then transport to airport for 1:50 p.m. flight to Bangkok, arriving at 6:00 PM

During this wonderful journey, we will be staying in different hotels and exploring monasteries and some amazing restaurants. The places we will stay offer complimentary breakfast and dinner along with facilities such as Bhutanese traditional hot stone bath or massage, meditation rooms, spa, and much more.

The participants will get a chance to enjoy the spicy yet delicious delicacies of Bhutan. While here, make sure to try their national dish, EmaDatshi, which is a fiery combination of green chillies smothered in cheese.

Did you know, in Bhutan the rice is red and chillies are the most important ingredient in every dish?

Along with traveling to some of the most wonderful locations and experiencing the authentic culture of Bhutan, the participants will also be doing yoga and meditation daily. Perfecting your yoga practices in the kingdom where 70% of the country is protected as a national park, you will get a chance to be as close to nature as possible.

In Bhutan co-existing with the environment is extremely important and the participants will understand how caring for the planet can give the sheer feeling of happiness.
