An accomplished musician and yogi, Oliwa is practicing yoga for 20 years. His yogic practice is inspired by his optimistic yet concerned perception of the state of our world and the beings by which it is inhabited. Besides his asana practice, Oliwa’s autodidacticism has guided him on a learning adventure through Eastern and Western philosophy, Vipassana Meditation, Non-Violent Communication, ballet/modern dance, natural science, psychology, civics, and arts. Currently, he lives in the bohemian mountain town of Ojai, California, where he is a senior teacher at the Light and Space Yoga Studio.
Core Subject: Vinyasa Yoga, Ashtanga, Yin Yoga, Rudra Yoga, Kundalini, Ayurveda, Sufism and Taist Yogas.
Serge Bandura is the director of Shivakali Yoga and he has been practicing the Yogic arts of India and Tibet since his youth. His approach evolves out of a deep transmission from his younger years in Kula where he was engaged in lengthy daily practices before the hours of dawn and undergoing rigorous study with his teachers. While teaching, he merges his knowledge of traditional Yogic practices and philosophy with 1000’s of hours of training in Vinyasa Yoga, Ashtanga, Yin Yoga, Rudra Yoga, Kundalini, Ayurveda, Sufism, Taist Yogas, and Tibetan Buddhism.
Our yoga teacher training takes place at the luxurious eco-villa “Gaia Retreat Center” located in the cultural heart of Bali, Ubud. This is a place where Balinese culture permeates every moment, where colorful offering beautifies the streets and where you can hear the hypnotic strains of gamelan. Also home to one of Bali’s royal families,
Ubud is a traditional town with hundreds of shops selling woodcarvings, antiques, paintings, jewelry, and textiles. The center is nestled in the rice fields and offers breath-taking views of the beautiful Bali. While here you will be amazed by the swaying of palm trees, therapeutic breeze, wind chimes, and beautiful rice terraces.
The development of our yoga teacher training program happens by the map of the chakras. We start at the root and end with the crown. In the root chakra segment, students will focus on their intentions for teaching or practicing yoga along with understanding the vast history of yoga. We will uncover the countless layers of the subtle body in the sacral chakra. We will also learn about the principles of Ayurveda, classical Tantra, and practice Yoga Nidra. In the navel chakra, we will explore yoga’s connection with power, fire, and introduce Lakshmi practice and the business of yoga. As we progress to the heart chakra we will encounter the devotional path of Bhakti Yoga as well as ceremony, prayer, and healing.
In the throat chakra, students will learn about Kashmir Saivism and the Sanskrit language, proper pronunciation, principles of chanting, and a wealth of manta and deity practices. While we reach the third eye chakra, our training will become more subtle as we encounter an array of Yogic meditations, explore Yogic Buddhism, and turn inward in silence. The training will culminate in the crown and you will receive kundalini awakening practices, learn Shakti mantra, Yogic ritual, and receive an initiation into the practice!
Moreover, each of these days will also include an outlook on the teaching methodology, an intensive dissection of major and minor poses, workshops on adjustments/alignment, and plenty of time for practice teaching. You will also get time to be present in nature, reflect, swim, stargaze, and relax. Also, enjoy a trip to a special Balinese temple and an opportunity to immerse in the ancient Balinese ritual.
The program includes an alignment-based Vinyasa Flow practice concluding in restorative postures, meditation, and pranayama. We focus on the presence centered awareness through which we first awaken the body and break-up stuck energy and later soften the mind and nurture our inner being. By uniting the masculine and feminine aspects of the practice we seek freedom in movement, create awareness from the mind to the heart and allow insight to arise naturally.
