Reviews

The people around me at Jakera feel like one big family, doing lots of nice activities. We have parties at night, we go liking, and we volunteer.

I’ve already recommended to others because Jakera is just an amazing experience you can’t find in Europe!

Embrace the Pura Vida of Costa Rica on the Pacific Coast in the Surfer’s Paradise of Santa Teresa

Join us on an adventure that’ll take you right to the heart of Costa Rica, where you’ll meet a nation of fiercely proud and fun-loving ‘Ticos’ (Costa Rican’s name for themselves.

It may be small, but this peaceful, sun-drenched corner of Central America holds over 5% of the world’s biodiversity, boasting more national parks per square meter than any other country in the world. It is also home to some of the most important nesting sites for endangered turtles.

This program starts on the first Sunday of each month, so clients can ‘settle in’ before the program proper starts on Monday morning.

Programmed activities include Spanish Lessons, professional Surf or Yoga Lessons, Volunteering in a range of projects in Santa Teresa and a turtle volunteer placement with Cirenas.

This is a traveling adventure so you can explore and enjoy the beautiful hinterland of Costa Rica and get a real feel for the biodiversity of this special part of the world.

Your experience is based at ‘Jakera Jungle Surf Camp’ where we have created a jungle paradise complete with swimming pool overlooked by a rich tropical forest bursting with wildlife including red squirrels, howler monkeys and tiny magical hummingbirds.

We are a 10 min walk from the cool cafes, bars and shops that line the 6km stretch of road and beach that make up Playa Santa Teresa/Playa El Carmen. This program is quite busy and varied but there is still free time to enjoy a great social life!

Jakera Jungle Surf Camp is a dream-like place in between the forests with a swimming pool. Visitors may get to see wildlife like red squirrels, howler monkeys, different species of hummingbirds, etc.

As one big family, you will get in touch with all generations of the Jakera Family in the Camp including the animals.

You will need to help with cleaning dishes and keep your room and public areas tidy.

Leave it cleaner than you found it, is the pro-active rule for Jakera Jungle Camp.

You have a choice of either washing your own clothes or using a laundry service in the local towns at weekends, which costs about $2 per kilo.

We are looking forward to welcome you in our “HOME AWAY FROM HOME”

Accommodation is single sex dorms with bunk beds (single, twin and double rooms also available upon request and for a supplement) and separate toilet and shower facilities (hot and cold water!). Breakfast and lunch are provided and the daily routine will be structured to accommodate the quality of the surf, as we try to create opportunities for the beach in between our priorities of Spanish lessons and volunteering.

All food in our camp is organic, sourced from local farmers and fishermen with garnishes and tidbits from our own garden. Our menu is predominantly vegetarian, though we do also serve locally sourced meat and fish.

Safe drinking water, tea, coffee, natural soft drinks will be provided throughout at each meal. Beers and sodas are not included.

Although menus will be local, they’ll be tempered to western tastes and vegetarians are easily accommodated. Salads, simple soups, tortillas, sweet plantains and local food made of tubers (similar to potatoes) are also popular.
