A total life changer... I completed juice fast and yoga detox a few days ago and I feel amazing. This retreat is not for the faint hearted but the wonderful Moinhos Velhos with its beautiful grounds, location and facilities is the perfect base to take on such an intense retreat of this type.
Which leads me onto the staff, who were always smiling and there for what ever support you need.
I am a 500hrs trained yoga teacher and I thought the yoga classes were top standard. Moinhos Velhos is not a super slick 5star resort neither is it a bohemian hippy style retreat... It is the perfect balance between the two helping you find that perfect balance in yourself.
I am hoping to make a fast at Moinhos Velhos an annual treat for my mind, body and soul. I would recommend Moinhos Velhos and the detox programme to anyone, it's just a really good thing to do for yourself.

Janni, a Sivananda yoga teacher, who has a background in traditional medicine, is one of the most loved teachers and the main facilitator of the program. She runs the whole program along with Frank and facilitates fasting, yoga, and detox programs.

Frank is one of the co-founder, who is also a yoga teacher at Moinhos Velhos. He is specialized in Kinesiology from a German Heilpraktiker school. He is a Three-in-One facilitator, an international Touch for Health instructor, Professional health provider, educational Kinesiology instructor, and a physiospect consultant and trainer.
Location
Moinhos Velhos is an isolated valley near the Barragem da Bravura. It is not so far from Lagos, on the Algarve coast in Portugal. Algarve is a region of Portugal that is popular for its laid back lifestyle.
The town offers an atmosphere, where you can unwind and recharge. You can also explore the enchanting culture, get to know the cheerful people, and can also enjoy the unspoiled country that still preserves its natural magic.
This unique program will heal your body both mentally and physically by just keeping you on a liquid diet, followed by some physical exercises like yoga and meditation. You will be served vegetable soup on Saturday evening, and then your main fasting will begin from Sunday morning onwards.
You will be following a juice diet with various supplements to support your body with the detoxification method and also to push the stored toxins out of your digestive system. There is also an availability of herbal teas and lemon water all day long. If on any day, you feel like having food, then the resort will not be able to provide the regular meals.
This program is not a real fast, as you will be provided by vegetable and fruit juices as well as vegetable broth along with vitamins, herbs, minerals, etc. The actual fasting only includes drinking water in it, and however, according to a Swedish doctor, Ragnar Berg stated that during fast our body excretes huge amounts of accumulated wastes. You can help this process by drinking juices instead of water.
This 7-day retreat will surely work on the elimination of toxins and will also balance your entire system. The sauna purifies the skin, and the meditation and yoga will facilitate the purification of the spirit and the mind. You will experience all of these healing therapies in the most beautiful setting.
Your evening workshops will include a Sivananda tradition inspired fire ceremony and Biodanza movement session adjacent to more traditional meditation practice. During these sessions, you will feel the change as the emotional levels of the body will release, and you will feel alive.

The resort is situated away from the famous tourist regions, lays on 16 hectares in a range of several thousand hectares of natural beauty.
The scheduled area is what you need to spend a wonderful week, where you will wake up to birds singing and will sleep in silence under a sky full of stars.
Your food will only include juices, and all the juices are prepared with organic produce. Sometimes the produce for a juice, picked for nutritional and cleansing purposes, may be out of season. And for that, we will then provide alternative organic juice.
No food will be provided, but you will also not feel hungry as you will be receiving all the nutrition from the juices. And also you will get some herbal pills and supplements to keep you energetic all day long. As a matter of fact, after a certain time, you will yourself feel younger than your real age.
The program has its own uniqueness as it will not only include fasting, but you will also be practicing some daily yoga and meditation exercises.
The liquid diet provided here will be made through organic produces. All the juices that are provided are made with organic produce, along with juices you will also be provided with herbal pills and supplements, as to maintain your energy level.
The program will help you in getting rid of stress, and you will leave feeling more energized.
